Dear Readers, Today is Vijay Diwas: ‘The Victory Day ’, and it is the 50 Anniversary of the Vijay Diwas. Fifty years back on this historic day, the Pakistani Army surrendered to the Indian Army in Dacca, East Pakistan. General AAK Niazi signed the Instrument of surrender with Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora; Commander of the Indian and Bangladesh forces in the Eastern Theatre, which ended the war between India and Pakistan in 1971. The Pakistani Army surrendered in the East with 93,000 soldiers, an unprecedented number. The victory was unique as it gave birth to a new nation Bangladesh. Today we celebrate the Vijay Diwas by paying tribute to all the brave men who laid down their life for the sake of the glory of their nation and its armed forces. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. This year’s Vijay Diwas celebrations have been muted due to the sad demise of 14 brave men in the Helicopter Crash in Conoor on 08th December 2021.
