I grew up reading his novels along with Agatha Christie, Earl Stanley Gardner. I agree he had a vivid style in portraying action and chase. His name aptly suggests his individuality. Very fitting tribute given to him.
@ JHC -- It was always a look forward for me as a class 8 student. My first JHC was *The world in my pocket* , given to me by my Dad. And he expected a short story back. So, he gave me some ten of JHCs, and I was little popular in class , as to read these novels. That was initiation of my english language reading. By higher secondary, Dad had made me read Charles Dickens, Nirad C Chaudhry, Alberto Moravia, Somerset Maugham, Neville Chute, John Lè Carre ...I can go on. And simultaneously on weekends he made me go to Delhi Public Library and pick up 3 hindi literature ( literature!!), poetry and prose . This habit continued at NDA; I became joke butt for reading hindi books in senior terms. But , today, i guess , my reading habit was sown down there and it has flourished with 250 odd books in my own library ( as against 5000 odd against my Dads!! ) . Thanks for brushing the dust from my reminiscences.
Thanks Minal
